Artist and Silver Surfer
Born in the UK and now based in Cornwall, Andrew has a rich background in multi media arts, photography, and surfing. More recently he has become known as The Silver Surfer following publication of a year’s worth of surf diaries, later made into a film.

Born in the UK
1966 Left school.
1967-68 Member of The Exploding Galaxy, a multimedia arts group based in London.
1967 Performed at Le Palais des Sports, Paris, with The Exploding Galaxy.
1967 Performed at The Flight to the Lowland Paradise in Utrecht.
1968-69 Travelled overland to Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Ceylon, Thailand and Malaysia.
1970-71 Lived on La Bateau Mayflower on the Seine, Paris, with artists John Dugger and David Medalla.
1972-74 Trained as a photographer as assistant to photographer Bob Gothard in London.
1973-74 First photo reportage story – the 31 bus route.
1974 Moved to Paris.
1975 Exhibition at 66 Rue des Lombards, Paris, of my photo essay Around the Block (A Year in the Life of a Quartier in Les Halles).
1976 Lived in the USA. Four months on the road with the American Truckers photographing Dirtyside > Shakyside.
1978 Worked on film projects in Paris and London.
1979 Suriname, South America – three reportage stories.
1980-92 Photographer based in London.
1982 Dirtyside > Shakyside The American Trucker exhibition at The Battersea Arts Centre, sponsored by the Greater London Arts Council, followed by a national tour. Cover of Geographical Magazine, Amerindians in Big Poika, and main feature story on Suriname.
1983 Photo reportage on traditional Hindu temple sculpture in Mahabalipuram, South India, featured in the Architectural Digest.
1984 Photo reportage in the Andaman Islands, Bay of Bengal, on the descendants of the Thugs (the Thuggee), who were relocated in the late 19th century.
1992-2000 Chef at my Canteen at the Royal Court Theatre, Sloane Square, London.
1993 Started painting and learning to surf.
1995 One man exhibition at The Plumbline Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall.
1999 One man exhibition at The Plumbline Gallery, St Ives, Cornwall.
2001 Relocated to Cornwall, primarily to surf.
2001 Photographs exhibited at The Pompidou Centre, Paris.
2003-13 Worked as a Chef for CC Cooking for children in care.
2014 Self publication of The Cove – photographic portrait of a year in the life of Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, Cornwall.
2019 Exhibition of black and white photos from the 1970s and 1980s, at Open, Wheal Kitty, St Agnes, Cornwall.
2019 Publication of The Silver Surfer, a journal of a 70 year old surfer that documents a year of my surf diaries, compiled and edited by John Herbert. Release of Silver Surfer film made by the HurlyBurly Film Company.
2003-present Creating surf-inspired artworks using materials employed in the manufacture of surfboards.
